Troop 868 was asked to help with a picnic co-hosted by several local organizations that assist persons who are impaired by spinal problems.  Intended as an event to help raise public awareness and also to provide a networking opportunity for persons with spinal problems, the picnic was held on the grounds of the Kosair Charities facility on Eastern Parkway.  The event was an ideal tie-in with the Disabilities Awareness merit badge that Troop 868 scouts had been working on since March.

Scouts arrived early to help with setup.  During the picnic they assisted in numerous ways, including helping to run several of the wheelchair sporting events ... such as wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.  They also had the opportunity to ride 3-wheeled hand-peddled "bicycles" around a course marked off in a parking lot.  Scoutmaster Meek got drafted into helping cook burgers and hot dogs for a large part of the day.  Afterward, the scouts helped with take-down and clean-up.

(L to R) Chris, Vincent, Trey, and Nick was for Tim and Stephen to finish horseplaying with the ladder as the scouts prepare to set up a wheelchair basketball goal. After they got it setup, Trey, Tim, Stephen, and Nick decided to test it out.
