Boy Scout Troop 868 has assisted the Okolona Little League Baseball Association by supplying a color guard for their season opening parade for many years.  After Pack 868 was started, the Cub Scouts have also joined in.

The parade is held on a Saturday morning, usually in early April.  The participants, in addition to the scouts, include the Okolona Fire Department, the Metro Louisville Police Department, various local dignitaries, and, of course, all the teams that play baseball in the Okolona league.  The marchers form up in the parking lot of the local Home Depot store.  At precisely 9:00 AM, the police close Preston Highway between Blue Lick Road and Southern High School and the parade begins with scouts carrying the U.S., state, and unit flags.

The parade route runs from the Home Depot approximately 1/2 mile south down the middle of Preston Highway to Southern High School.  The baseball fields are located on school property at the rear of the school and are shared by the high school teams and the recreational baseball association.  Once at the baseball complex, the teams proceed as groups into the outfield of field #1 with the scouts positioned with the flags between the pitcher's mound and second base.  The national anthem is sung then a series of short speeches are given by a handful of league officials and local politicians.  The total ceremonies typically take only 20~30 minutes and always end with the traditional command to "PLAY BALL!"

Scoutmaster Bob Meek got the boys lined up and gave directions about how to march in formation. A few minutes before 9:00 AM the group was all lined up and ready to go.
The color guard consisted of Shawn (Troop flag), Tristan (Pack flag), Chase (American Flag), and Preston (Kentucky state flag). Pack 868 Cub Scouts worked hard to hold their formation as the color guard moved forward to the end of the entrance way.
Troop 868 Scoutmaster Bob Meek and Pack 868 Cubmaster Steven Frank followed immediately behind the color guard. Troop 868 scouts followed the Pack 868 Cub Scouts.
It's not often that one gets to march down the middle of busy Preston Highway on a Saturday morning. Mr. Meek and Mr. Frank smiled for the photographer.
Chase did a good job of setting an appropriate pace and all the scouts did a great job of holding their formation. Tony and James carried the Pack 868 banner and the other Cubs followed behind.
Nicholas and Noah carried the Troop 868 banner.  The other Boy Scouts and leaders followed. Once we arrived at the ball field, we took our assigned positions and waited for all the little league teams (who were behind the vehicles with the dignitaries) to arrive and fill the outfield.
