2010 was the 8th year for Troop 868's annual Merit Badge University program, always held on the last Saturday of February.  MBU 2010 drew another record number of Boy Scouts -- nearly 1,100 --- and offered participants an opportunity to work on their choice of 76 different merit badges.  Scouts from 100 different units representing 4 different councils attended.  This program is clearly the largest single day event for Boy Scouts in the state of Kentucky.

The program was once again blessed to have dozens of scout leaders and experts in their respective fields from the community at large volunteer as counselors.  Numerous federal, state, Bullitt County, and City of Shepherdsville agencies and local businesses contributed.  Major support came once again from the Bullitt County Public School system and the principals and staff at three Bullitt County Schools:  Bullitt Lick Middle School, Shepherdsville Elementary School, and the Bullitt County Area Technology Center.

The photos that follow are snapshots of various merit badge classes in session.  It should be obvious from the pictures that learning and earning merit badges was the task at hand; and both our counselors and the scouts who attended were clearly focused on that objective.

Our sincere thanks to all the volunteer counselors, scout leaders, and parents who contribute their time and energy each year to make Merit Badge University possible.

Bullitt County Judge-Executive Melanie Roberts, a former school teacher, counseled the Citizenship in the Community MB. Computers MB counselor Julia Brown is among our "tenured professors" who have counseled at MBU for many years.
The Registration/Customer Service desk was staffed by Troop 868 Committee Members Chuck Hall, Andy Rodabaugh, Patrick McClure, and Melanie Douglas. Troop 868 Committee Members Sandra Vera, Heather DiEnno, and Melanie Douglas assist a couple of scout leaders who have a question.
Troop 868 Life Scout Adam gave a talk to classmates and counselor Jim Berger in the Communications MB class. David Bush, who has counseled shooting sports at Camp Roy C. Manchester for several years, counseled the Archery MB.
Jerry Zimmerer (photo at left) and Jim Fitzgerald (photo at right) are both "tenured professors" at MBU.  Jerry's area is the Personal Management MB; Jim counsels Electricity MB.
Ron Heller, Public Speaking MB counselor, is another "tenured professor" who has counseled at MBU for many years. Troop 868 Committee Member Mike Troxell, a professional safety consultant, worked with scouts on the Safety MB.
The Skating MB class was held offsite at the Shepherdsville Community Center where scouts were able to roller skate and play hockey on the concrete floor without causing any damage.
