CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN
Troop 868 Home Page Troop 868 in Action
Troop 868 was asked by the Shepherdsville Fire Department to help with door-to-door collections for the annual WHAS Crusade for Children. Scouts responded by volunteering a Saturday morning plus 3 weekday evenings. Having plenty of prior experience canvassing neighborhoods for the annual Scouting for Food drive and various troop fundraising events, the firefighters were amazed that the boys knew exactly what to do and how to do it ... and weren't the least bit bashful about knocking on doors and asking for donations!
In past years, it has taken the firefighters at least 3 weeks to visit all homes in the district. This year, with the scouts' manpower and youthful enthusiasm, the task was completed in 3 days!
In addition to providing a community service, the scouts benefited by getting to ride all around town on the fire trucks with lights flashing and sirens howling. The whole operation was a positive experience for both the scouts and the firefighters.
